Marine Mammals

Even in areas remote from human activity like the Canadian Arctic, marine mammals are being impacted by the indirect effects of climate change. NSC biologists understand the environmental factors currently affecting Arctic marine mammals, and have participated in the design and execution of aerial surveys to examine their distribution, abundance and behaviour in both estuarine and marine environments. These surveys have focused on bowhead whale, beluga, narwhal, killer whale, walrus, bearded seal, harp seal, and polar bear.
